WEEK 8. THE THEORY OF COMPLEXITY #SOYER17/18
IMPORTANT NOTE: BEFORE STARTING AND TAKING INTO ACCOUNT YOUR SUGGESTIONS, WE HAVE CHANGED OUR BLOG STRUCTURE. YOU CAN SEE THAT IN THE TOP LEFT PART OF THE MAIN PAGE THERE IS A LITTLE TAB. IF YOU CLICK INSIDE YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SURF IN ALL OF OUR PREVIOUS POSTS. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
STAR ROLE
Hi everyone! I'm Roberto and this week I am the star of the group and the facilitator as well because one of the members of the group is absent and I am covering her role.
As you can see, it is not frequent that a star posts anything in this blog. However, this week, we have been asked to write our experience by leading a group in the weekly task.
First of all, I have to admit that it had been THE MOST STRESSFUL day of this course. I didn't know how I was going to perform because I thought I had to talk but I didn't. On the contrary, Linda told us that we had to make different groups by choosing people from the rest of groups available in the classroom, as maximum 11 components.
Later, she decided which group had to work with a type of complexity and our group was given the complexity of Diversity and Redundancy. Linda also told us that we had to use the tool 2.0 ATAVIST to create a magazine where we had to explain the characteristics and what the complexity of diversity and redundancy is, and we had to use all the pieces of news we had to collect from Monday to Wednesday and relate them to the complexity named previously. I would also like to admit that we have been using different tools in order to create this project, such as web Whatsapp to share information very quickly and Google Drive in order to reach the goal.
The main problems we had was the lack of time, just one hour to distribute the tasks between the members of the group, modify and summarize the pieces of news because some were a bit longer, collect all of them in digital format by mail, and copy and paste in order the create the journal. It seemed easy, but it was not, especially if are not used to dealing with this kind of pages and because the result is not what you wanted because of the lack of time. Right now, I can say that I have learned how to use ATAVIST.
Being honest, all of them are hard working people. They haven't complained about anything, they have done everything we asked they do always with a smile on their faces. We have done our best to reach the target, however, a 'logistic' error made we didn't finish our project in time, because we had to redo it again 15 minutes before the time was over.
Fortunately, because of one of the help of one of the members of the group (please, don't become angry with me the rest of components) Ainhoa Pestaña told me that she was in charge of finishing the project, by adding images, and correcting little mistakes we made and we didn't have time to solve. The outcome has been AMAZING as you can see in the link below.

PS: It's been a difficult but rewarding experience because I have worked with different people from the class and I have been able to adapt to them and they have been able to adapt to me as well, a really difficult issue because of the characteristics of the task and the lack of time in order to do it. As a result, I consider that we have worked very well as a group and I appreciate their help. Even though Yassin, one member of my original group was working with us, I also missed the rest of members of my group.
I hope you enjoyed our project and please feel free to comment whatever you want. We will be really pleased to read all your comments.
FACILITATOR ROLE
As a facilitator, I'd like to say that although this week has been a kind of 'chaos' we have done all our tasks, taking into account that one of the members of the group it's been outside. I am not used to being in charge of commanding a team, but this role is helping me to develop my skills as a group organizer and will be very helpful for me in a future as a primary school teacher.
I want to apologize if I don't reply the comments you likely write because of a family issue I'll have to be outside for a few days. I'll reply as soon as possible. Thanking you in advance for your sympathy. See you next week in the following task!
ANALYST ROLE
Hi there, it's Yassín, and I'm the analyst of the group this week! So this week has been very different from the usual, because of one thing, we cooperated with people from the other groups instead of the usual six members. Initially, this was pretty chaotic due to the fact that none of us were expecting such a decision from Linda and we only had 1 hour to put everything together so it makes sense.
Right after making our newly formed team, we had to make a newspaper compilation with one article of each member in order to divide each complexity in different newspapers. Looking back now, I think that this activity showed us, just as Linda said, to adapt to new situations in such a complex system as education.
The goal of this week's activity wasn't to just know about the five different complexities of the Complexity theory, but also to learn first hand just how if one element of the system suddenly changes (in our case being the teams) the whole system is affected and needs to change.
We survived the switch in groups thanks to our flexibility and adaptability, and that makes me proud to be a part of this class.
TRANSLATOR ROLE
Welcome back to our wonderful blog.
I am Diego and this week I am the translator of our group Universal Teachers. Here you have the 5 most important concepts for the weekly task called: Complexity and relationships texts.
Complex system: A complex system or organization is a combination of levels, each of them with an open limit and composed by people of similar characteristics. At each level, there are connections between the parts where knowledge emerges through interaction. One good example could be a school system which has many levels: students, teachers, headmasters, governors, etc.
Complexity theory: It is a way of examining society and its changes which goal is to understand how communities of organisms based on the complexity of the systems rather than individual cause and effect processes.
Diversity: It is the different kind of ideas, practice or systems within a complex system which is formed by processes of evaluating, disregarding and trialing innovations and new ideas. This concept is related to the idea of redundancy.
Redundancy: It is a concept related to the idea of diversity, and it has its origins in the complex systems. Redundancy consists of the replay of ideas or longstanding practices that normally are replaced or discontinued.
Balancing randomness: Schools are influenced by apparent randomnesses such as technological innovations, natural events, government policy initiatives and society changes, which create pressure for change within the system.
CURATOR FARMER ROLE:
Hi Everyone! I'm Mavi and this is the three we have done this week. As you will see is growing very fast!

| Roles of this week #soyer1718 #task7.1 |
Well, as for this week, we have carried out an activity that
in my opinion would be one of the most important. How complex would be the
educational system and the relationship between the different factors that we
find in education and that make it so complex.
On Monday, the teacher was responsible for explaining what
the activity consists of and explained the different types of contexts in which
we can find ourselves, highlighting the simple context, which would be the one
in which we know the rules, the questions and the answers, the chaos context,
in which we do not know the rules so we work on our own and the difficult
context, in which we probably know the questions, but the answers are difficult
so we need an expert to answer these questions. Finally we find the complex
context, in which we can sometimes know the questions and the answers, but even
with an expert, the answers are not obvious. In this context we would find
education.
The teacher also explained that all social contexts are
difficult since everything is working as a system, that is, different factors
are working and are related to each other. So, it is very difficult to have
everything under control.
After this explanation, our task would be to read a chapter
in which we found the different complexities existing in the school context,
and find a news item that was related to this type of complexity. Thus, we
would be able to extrapolate the theory to reality and we would understand the
difficulty of a system, in this case the educational one.
On Monday, Roberto, the facilitator, was in charge of
distributing the work, and each of the members was in charge of delving into
one of the complexities and finding a related news, although we all had to read
the whole chapter. On the other hand, Roberto was responsible for representing
us this week as Star, so we did all the work in advance enough so that the
speech could be prepared.
Finally, it arrived on Wednesday, in which all the stars
carried out the role of newspaper editors. We separated the different
complexities between the different stars, and at least one member of each team
had to accompany the star, to collect all the news related to a complexity and
to make a kind of newspaper collecting all the information. To develop all this
activity we had one hour, and due to the lack of time, the stars could not
explain what had been carried out.
After this activity, the star of each group was in charge of
supervising the work that had been done in class, and finally hanging the final
result.
This week has been hard for our team, since we had one less
member and it has not been easy to find the relationship between the news and
the complexities, which were not easy to understand either. Despite this, we
hope to have done a good job, since it has been done with a lot of effort.
I will leave comments on other blogs about this weekly
activity.
Good luck to every group.
Good luck to every group.
María José.

Great job! It is obvious how much Linda makes you work, it reflects a good learning process.
