WEEK 9. THE THEORY OF COMPLEXITY PART 2 #SOYER17/18
TRANSLATOR ROLE
Hi guys! So this week's translator is going to be yours truly, Yassín, and we have interesting new concepts to see here.
This week we learned about the relationships between elements of the educational system from the perspective of the Complexity Theory, and incidentally, we saw 5, just like the 5 concepts a translator has to explain, so here we go.
Teacher-Student connection
The relationship is that in the digital era teachers develop positive learning relationships with their students to establish and maintain an effective learning environment. The teacher must take into account the previous experiences and cultural background when they are planning the pedagogical approaches to use when they are teaching.
As a result, learning is produced as teachers use what they know and their experiences to encourage their students thinking and provide feedback. Because of this connection between teacher and student, learning occurs.
Connections with peers
Due to the very nature of humans, that is, being social beings, students are no different in schools. As they go through their lives in schools, students will make connections with each other, make important friendships (that may or not change with time) and become part of a social group. Peers contrast information, either study together or share ways to study, they help each other and make the classroom environment more enjoyable.
This connections between classmates can be considered beneficial for their academical achievement. Through the use of methodologies such as collaborative learning, students will learn how to learn with others and how to evaluate their classmates. With this cooperation, teachers can also align their methods with the current digital age, where students will truly learn instead of just completing a given task.
Connections within the learning context
This theory ensures learning that allows children to establish connections between what they are learning and what they already know (which can be through ideas, concepts, personal experiences, etc.). For all this, teachers try to facilitate this process through the use of real and close examples that allow children to establish a relationship and anchor what they already know with new knowledge. In addition, another perspective that would help would be for children to unite their different experiences and knowledge to create a shared knowledge, which would greatly facilitate the union of different concepts.
Connections beyond the classroom
In the digital age, not only it is possible to give lessons of physical form also across the Internet. The connections of learning can be facilitated and developed by the teachers when the students interact together in many different areas.
Connections within learning
Even more, teachers can modify learning behaviours with some techniques, such as sharing personal experiences, stories or anecdotes that not only make classes more easy-going but can also catch the attention of students who were not previously paying attention to the class.
JOURNALIST ROLE
Hi everyone! Im'n Roberto and this week I'm the journalist of my group.
Now, I'm going to say the roles we are going to develop during this week.
They are:
Roberto: Journalist
Maria José: Analyst
Diego: Curator-Farmer
Yassin: Translator
Mavi: Facilitator
Lola: Star
I have to admit that this week it's a little strange. We were asked to do a new task, 7.2 exactly called complexity of relationships and Linda was explaining something about it at the beginning of the classroom.
Later, we were told that we had to read a new document related to the complexity of relationships and we had to create a kind of 'script' related to all of them. My classmates and I divided the job as usual and we carefully read all the document in order to decide what we wanted to write and how.
Linda told us that we had to specify the number of characters, the type of situation we wanted to perform, the location... She told us as well that we had to take to class all the stuff we wanted to better perform and we were thinking what to take. Finally, I decided to take all my stuff related to professional make-up because apart from the student, I'm a professional make up artist as well.
I would like to mention that Linda said that all the star had to know clearly all the complexities and that she was going to be in charge of leading a play of theatre.... and that we had to be sure our phones were space enough to record videos on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, all my classmates and I had taken all the things we had prepared in order to perform in class. We didn't know what we had to do (I had taken a lot of things such as a couple of ties, makeup, brushes, specific makeup for children easy to remove..... Unfortunately, before the class started our classmate Cata told us that she had received a Twitter message where Linda said she couldn't come to class because her daughter had had a medical problem. As a result, we weren't going to have a class with her. However, she told us to finish the scripts and record one video for each script, in total, 5 videos. We are a little exhausted because we have to do a lot of things and especially because we have to study because our exams are very soon.
We are going to do our best as usual and we expect you comment our blog if you want to know something about us, or comment whatever.
Yesterday we were recording the videos we had to do...I have to say that I didn't know what was going to be the result...and finally, I liked them! Lola is an excellent star! And what to say of the rest of my group mates... they have performed very very well. We decided to choose a classroom to record because all of our scripts are focused on what happens inside. Our videos are not probably the best but we have put a lot of effort into finishing on time and doing what we have to do.
In the following LINK, you can see the videos we made regarding the complexities we had been dealing with during this week.
That's all for this week mates!
See you next week!
I' have also added a video I consider is interesting related to the relationship between the teacher and the student.
FACILITATOR ROLE
ANALYST ROLE
FACILITATOR ROLE
Hi everybody!! I am Maravillas and this week is my first time as a facilitator. This week has been making something different.
First as a facilitator, I distributed the work among the group members, and quickly we started to do task 7.2. The documents facilitated by the teacher we could understand them better than the previous week, since we had a base on the subject. Although the most difficult thing for us in this task, has been making a script representing the connections seen in the documents.
This week due to a medical problem, the teacher could not come to class on Wednesday. So instead of performing the roles in class, and making a feedback, our teacher asked us to record and upload them to YouTube. To sum up, I would say that although in the last moment we had to do a job that we did not have planned, my classmates and I organized ourselves and did a good job.
Universal team is ready for new tasks and goals!!

ANALYST ROLE
Hi everyone! It’s María José and this week I'm in charge of carrying out the analyst role.
First of all, this week, just like the analyst commented last week, it has been a totally different week for two reasons.
First of all, we continued working with the same topic of the last week that dealt with the different factors present in the school and the existing relationship between them. More concretely, the connectivist theory has been worked on.
This means that the topic to be discussed is different to what we are used to, since we must interpret a chapter and put into practice the different connections and relationships in a real educational environment that we will live constantly in our day to day as future teachers. In my opinion, this type of activities, more specifically to make a script of a play focused on a real situation has allowed us to put ourselves in a situation and be able to see the different behaviors that we could carry out, to be efficient or not.
On the other hand, it has been a difficult week, since we had to carry out a complex job. We had to record a situation that could happen at school on a daily basis and making the script was not easy, besides creating the right environment to understand that situation.
This has allowed us to know the complicated actions carried out by a teacher, who is the mediator in any situation present in the classroom, and also know the amount of skills and attitudes that he/she should have to perform a good teaching function.
Finally, as a conclusion, with this activity we have allowed the theory of connectivist learning and enter much more into it. This is the basis of the connections that are created in the classroom, and argues that learning occurs through the interaction of the different parts that make up the complex educational system. In addition, another of the fundamental principles is the connection between real experiences and the knowledge given in class, to facilitate their practice in the future.
